PLATFORM OF YOUNG CHOREOGRAPHERS 2007
The initiative to develop the contemporary dance scene and establish young choreographers in Croatia was first started on 14th May 2000 in the Theatre EXIT in Zagreb and was called the Platform of Young Choreographers.
We then started the ambitious dance project that hadn't existed in Croatia before, and was intended to promote the not yet established theatre choreographers and form a strong and creative choreographer scene in Croatia.
The Platform of Young Choreographers is a product of the great desire and need of the young choreographer generation to publicly display their work and to achieve a successful cooperation with international choreographers. It is intended to promote and establish talented young choreographers and help their professional development, at the same time allowing development of cultural cooperation on a regional and an international level.
We are proud to say that the initiative has developed into a seven-day international gathering of young dance artists and groups that, through a variety of educational programmes - performances, workshops, lectures, discussions, exhibitions, installations, round tables, presentations, etc - exchange their ideas, attitudes and individual dance approaches, at the same time presenting their artistic work.
The platform is also intended to present the Croatian professional dance scene to the international partners, selectors and eminent guests so that young Croatian choreographers would be given a chance to participate in the international artists-exchange programme. The programme is realised through a network of numerous Platform associates and partners.
In the last eight years, the Platform has hosted choreographers from Croatia and from many other countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria, France, Germany, Russia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Macedonia, Spain, Israel, Slovenia, Cyprus, Switzerland, Argentina, Columbia and Great Britain.

BREAK A LEG
It presents young Croatian choreographers who are just starting to build their careers. The choreographers apply to an audition after which a 3-member committee (Nikolina Pristaš, Branko Banković and Anamarija Bogdanović) chooses maximum 4 performances.
One of the performances is awarded the prize for the most promising young choreographer at the platform. The prize is participation at Almada Dance Festival (Portugal): International Platform for Choreographers, taking place from 14th to 17th November 2007.
KOREOMAT
..lasts for two evenings in which the most recent full-length performances by eminent Croatian choreographers and dance groups are given.
Being impossible to present the entire Croatian professional choreographer scene, the organiser reserves the right to select the most interesting performances. Others will be given an opportunity to meet a group of partners to whom they can offer their work.
SHOWROOM
Different organizations, dance groups, academies and networks present their projects and show their work; they organize meetings, discussions and presentations on their activities, possible cooperation and exchanges. The choreographers have a chance to meet, get informed and ask whatever interests them.
DANCETARIUM
It presents the new dance generation, new trends and innovative dance forms. Through its exchange programme, the platform carries out a guest performance programme of young international choreographers. The organizer keeps the right the invite only artists that, through the quality of their work, are considered to contribute to the platform.
GUEST PERFORMANCES
Special guest platforms are divided in two groups, the first consisting of Croatian dancers and choreographers who successfully work, live and work abroad and the second of international choreographers who set new trends through their innovative approach to dance art.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME
It is an extremely important part of the platform. The choreographers and dancers have a chance to meet, work with and talk to eminent Croatian and world leading dancer and experts- through workshops, auditions, meetings, presentations, discussions and round tables. It is a place reserved for education, spreading knowledge and skills and presenting new initiatives and projects on a local, regional as well as on an international level.
EXHIBITION
….is a place where work of young generation of visual artists is presented; a meeting place of cooperation, promotion, affirmation and professional development of visual artists. The organizers of the exhibition “NURA” are Igor Pauška and Zdravka Ivandija.
IMPORTANT!!!
All performances are attended by a group of our partners made of selectors, festival directors and leading people from very important world manifestations and choreographer centres. The platform therefore functions as a market where work of Croatian and international choreographers is presented.
