DIAGNOSTIC / 2017

DIAGNOSTIC

Together we will work on methods how to unpack your own artistic practices, processes, strategies, and research methodologies. We will work on the differentiation and articulation of these to oneself, as well as developing skills in articulating and conceptualizing / contextualizing them for others.
Diagnostics originally refers to pinpointing an error in the system, be it health or computers, but in the arts it can be quite exciting to establish for oneself a practice and method of aberration. We will follow, describe and experience these ratios and aberrations, in order to make them accessible and present. With this intensive we also want to start exploring the process of co-working. What is it to co-think and co-imagine with somebody else’s work. Insofar we are building a peer to peer methodology of co-learning through co-teaching.

Radionica TOUCH OF MADNESS – K. M. Horn/N. Mutić

TOUCH OF MADNESS

Opis radionice

Use-abuse istražuje naše somatske strukture i njihove harmonijske / disharmonijske odnose s našim dišnim sustavom.

Use-abuse stimulira osjećaj slobode i iskrenosti u pojedinom tijelu.

Workshop Description
Katharina Maschenka Horn and Nemanja Mutić are proposing a workshop based on the show touch of MADNESS, where the workshop participants are asked to research and explore questions of homeland and identity.

The workshop participants will be led through a series of automatic writing exercises and text and movement improvisations. The workshop will be based on the use-abuse-method, which is a dance method that has been developed by Berlin based choreographer Nir De Volff / Total Brutal (with whom Katharina works together since 2010), has been invited to prestige dance center around the world and is taught by Katharina since several years.

Use-abuse explores our somatic structure and its harmonic / disharmonic relation to our breathing system. It focuses on somatic areas, that we tend to ignore and brings them alive. The method aims to research the harmonized coordination between the body and the emotional system of dancers, actors and performers.

Use-abuse stimulates freedom and honesty in individual bodies. It demands to neglect self-judgement. While this method was designed to find greater range within a physical practice, through the participants exploration of this technique other byproducts may appear, whether that be social, political or therapeutical. It offers new dimension for movements, new exploration of the body „as we know it“.

Use-abuse is a search for total freedom of the muscles, that leads dancers to a new physical sensation and expands their borders. It allows creativity to be explored in the studio with the notion of leaving behind limitations and (bad) habits.

The workshop days will start with a long section of self-exploration and develop into higher energy levels in ’Total Brutal’s movement style’.

The workshop will be built up like a short rehearsal process, which will lead to a collection of individual material from each workshop participant in the end of the workshop.
