FESTIVAL TASK

FESTIVAL TASK

Što je to TASK?

TASK je interaktivni plesni časopis-projekt. Obuhvaća istraživački, izvedbeni, edukativni, dokumentaristički i vizualni/grafički aspekt.

Kako funkcionira TASK?

TASK AUTORI (dosada preko 25 međunarodnih koreografa i vizualnih umjetnika, kroz 20 TASKova) stvorili su svoj TASK – uputu kako doći do umjetničkog djela u 7 koraka.

Razvijajući projekt TASK, u skladu s eksperimentalnom logikom koju on sadrži, preuzele smo svojevrsni rizik zbog nepredvidivosti ovakvih hibridnih umjetničkih procesa i njihovih rezultata.

TASK FESTIVAL

What is TASK?

TASK is an interactive dance magazine-project. It includes research, performative, educational, documentary and visual/graphic aspect.

There are five main interests of the TASK project – archiving the works of Croatian choreographers, encouraging communication in our local dance scene, intermedia – cooperation of dance, visual and other media, affirmation of the process instead of the product of and artistic work, and developing an international network of Croatian dance.

You can find the archive of TASKS realized so far at http://tala.hr/tala/task/task/.

How did TASK originate?

The originator of the project is graphic designer and dancer Martina Granić. The project initiated, in the present production form, in 2011 through collaboration with Sonja Pregrad and through the initiative of TALA Dance Center / Platforma HR Festival. The basic idea, of creating a wider project, was based on creating a platform for documenting the systematics of (dance) creation, as well as publications, archiving and analysis of that material, and for exchange of methodologies, collaboration and questioning of authorships through its fragmentation, transposing and reframing.

How does TASK function?

TASK AUTHORS (so far more than 25 international choreographers and visual artists, through 20 TASKS) created their own TASK – instructions how to get to an artistic work in seven steps. Those TASKS are taken over by TASK REACTORS (there have been 50 of them so far), and by following seven steps they create their work, while reading the written instructions. The whole process is based on discovering, explaining and interpretation of choreographic templates with a purpose of finding new methods, new actions and ways to work within their own concept.

In developing TASK, according to its experimental logic we took over a somewhat risk because of the unpredictability of these kind of hybrid artistic processes and their results. We invited artists to bring their creative processes to the TASK polygon, and to, regardless of the outcome, research and find new, different forms of cooperation with other artists or non-artists, to use innovative spaces and to carry them out through inter-medial collaborations.

The TASK project is again, and again shown as a big challenge, but also a motivation, for artists, as well as for the whole authoring team of the festival.

TASK 2018 program offers different collaborations:

-        TASKREVIEW – performative game of reviewing the TASK project, whose authors are Pola Pautan and graduates at Department for dance at the Academy of Dramatic Arts in Zagreb.

-        TASK COOPERATION with students from the Acting and Puppetry Department of the Arts Academy in Osijek, who have, based on past TASKS and the material that follow these TASKS, prepared their reactions, that is, their works.

-        TASK LAB – a well-known format of exhibition / performance with students from the Department for Animated Film and New Media, Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts, in which visual artists translate choreographic instructions for their works, with the mentorship of Vanja Babić and Sonja Pregrad

-        TASK 15, an international group of artists and organizers of the TASK project, which has been, for the last four years, in developing their collective TASK through 15 years, questioning and looking for new forms and formats of collective creation. TASK15 will moderate the program in a way that it will actively create space for dialogue of the “temporary” dance community, which will be formed during the duration of the program.
