Kritički parkour 2016. ostvaren je u suradnji s projektom Life Long Burning / Performance Situation Room / Nomad Dance Institute – Archive.

Critical Parkour 2016: Archiving dance of the 1980s

Dance in the Dance and Theatre Centre “Kulušić” in the 1980s
Lively, interesting, diverse contemporary dance scene in Croatia in the 1980s implied the School for Rhythm and Dance that had been active for three decades already, educating female dancers who continued to work in one of three companies with regular annual production of dance performances and these were: the Studio Contemporary Dance Company, the Chamber Ensemble of Free Dance and the Zagreb Dance Company, and implied forming of companies like the Terpsihora Company, the Gesta Company, etc.
It also implied that the scene did not posses their own space for work and performing, therefore the Studio Contemporary Dance Company presented their performances in Zagreb Youth Theatre, the Chamber Ensemble of Free Dance in ITD Theatre, and the Zagreb Dance Company managed to find a new space for performing – Dance and Theatre Centre “Kulušić.” Also, Dance Week Festival would be inaugurated in this space in 1984.
Zagreb’s contemporary dance therefore became part of a subculture in coexistence with rock concerts. Monday was defined as the day for dance performances by the Zagreb Dance Company, and this made possible for young choreographers, like for instance Jasminka Neufeld Imrović, Katja Šimunić, and Ksenija Zec, to create their work, but also to invite guests. With this transfer to “Kulušić,” dance audience became larger, also including young people who favoured subculture and counterculture, and this certainly caused counter-influence on the dance expression by the Zagreb Dance Company.

Critical Parkour 2016 was realized in collaboration with the project Life Long Burning / Performance Situation Room / Nomad Dance Institute – Archive.
