TASK 10 – BARBARA MATIJEVIĆ

News of the week

1.

2.

Napravi izbor videa i definiraj isječke.

3.

Svjesno i empatično u tijelo upiši iskustvo tog znanja, aktiviraj kako činjenicu njegove praktične bezvrijednosti i suvišnosti, tako i njegovu potencijalnu vrijednost u osmišljavanju vlastitih strategija naspram medijatiziranog iskustva neposredne prošlosti.

4.

News of the week

1.

During the span of one week, intensely visit daily, national and foreign internet news portals and search for links to videos from TV/internet (YouTube) ads on different topics (politics, entertainment, health, trivia, pets, sports, culture, interior decorating, culinary advice…) These videos will sure be about events, persons and products from the nearer or further past.

2.

Make a selection of the videos and define clips.

3.

Learn to reproduce these clips as closely as possible (gestures, facial and bodily expressions, speech). Approach the material as a total choreography. Consciously and emphatically write the experience of this knowledge into your body, activate both the fact of its practical worthlessness and superfluousness, as well as its potential value in coming up with original strategies as opposed to the mediated experience of the immediate past.

4.

Define a sequence of clips. Try to think of the past as something that is no more a dimension of time, but is a cultural artefact.

5.

Place the clips into space. If it helps, try to think of the information you represent as sculptures that can be looked at from multiple angles.

6.

You can fill out the space between clips however you like.

7.

Do not forget that you are not in the role of a witness who was called in to give an authentic testimony about these past events, but a creator of experience, and as such you can think about the performance as a way to mimetically spit out this knowledge in order to get rid of it, to contextualize it as poésie sonore, articulate it as an act of daily prayer or as a séance of ventriloquism.
